    Brad,
The Suhr was plekked . but it needs a grind and polish, which from previous experience lowers the frets too much for my taste. So I'm just going to get it re-fretted with big ass Dunlop frets. I can live without the plek.

I have a few Plek'd guitars that I got new from Gibson and they play and sound great and the intonation is spot on. That being said, I have had guitars that have not been Plek'd and I can say the same thing about.

IMHO if you have someone reputable do the work the Plek thing isn't that big a deal. I do think it's a cool thing for a factory (like Gibson) to be doing.

That's what I'm leaning towards. I have a guy who did a great fret job on my PRS. He'll do it for 200 bucks. And keep it for 1 week as opposed to sending it out and waiting God knows how long. I really don't think it makes THAT much of a difference.

Yeah, I think for a factory banging out a bunch of guitars it does but there have been great fret jobs for many years before the Plek was invented!

If the person you take it to doesn’t see it this way and is under the spell that the PLEK machine can “do it all” then I would run away with my guitars as fast as I could.

Plek is cool, its just a more efficient way of doing what somebody skilled does by hand though... If you put your fret job in the hands of a master luthier who knows what they're doing, you'll get an outcome that is just as good. Every instrument that leaves our shop gets a fret job done by hand simply because we cannot afford a plek machine. That being said, our customers report that our guitars play as good as any Tom Anderson, Prs, etc... they have ever played. If you want more info, or a quote, email us on our contact page at JW Guitars, Handmade Boutique Guitars, Chattanooga Tn cheers!
