PSA - Vertex Axis Wah is a relabeled BBE Ben Wah w/ Gear Page Thread

It Appears Mason from Vertex Effects is the new Ken Freekish Blues
Looks like everyone's darling Mason has pulled a fast one.

Details are on The Gear Page, here is a link
The Vertex Axis = BBE Ben Wah - Bermuda Triangle Axis Wah Continued - The Gear Page

There are pictures and many details showing the Vertex Axis Wah is no more
then a BBE Ben wah with some cosmetic changes, no circuit board mods as claimed.
The volume pedal is also not what it claimed , although Mason di remove part of the circuit
on this one, but not much to justify the price.

Sad... He makes a sweet looking pedalboard, but WAY overpriced. I've never been impressed with his electronics. I always wondered how he got his hooks into the artists he has. The dude is pretty uhmm, sure of himself in person.

He sure put on a great act, When I first went to the Vertex website, I was interested in the Axis Wah. I clicked on the axis wah tab
and there was 3 of my favorite players ever, endorsing the wah. I was hooked, I thought if Ford, Carlton and S. Henderson is using it , I am in.
I am so done with pro endorsements. I guess if you throw these guys some swag they will let you post their pics up with your products
    Very disappointing,

Ouch. This sucks. I ordered an Axis Wah from a dealer back in May. Yes, I bought into the Landau/Ford/Carlton hype. I drank the Kool-Aid. Dammit. They kept saying it's backordered. The dealer even offered to refund my money since it was taking so long. I should have taken them up on the refund. I didn't see all the commotion until AFTER I got the wah and used it on some gigs. What the dealer actually shipped on July 11th was the Axis Blackout Wah, calling it an upgrade...?? Not sure how, since retail price was the same.

Apparently, the Blackout is a modded Dunlop Crybaby, the below is quoted from this post on TGP The Gear Page - View Single Post - Bermuda Triangle of Vertex Wah Threads...

"- As for the Blackout Wah...I've stated very clearly on my website: https://www.vertexeffects.com/effects/blackout-axis-wah that the Wah uses a hot-rodded Crybaby platform for the Blackout version, and is more of a 70's Crybaby style voicing. You'll find several component changes on the PCB, the inductor is removed, modified, and re-set in a new position on the PCB to reduce noise, different pot, etc. This is what I did to one of Michael Landau's wahs (exactly), people were requesting it, so I offered a limited run of 100 pieces."
So, I have an $80 Dunlap Crybaby wah that's been modded to the tune of $270. The board is seriously gooped up with gray stuff, but a few component values can be seen somewhat. The inductor has electrical tape around it, with black goop all over it as well. Shit. Shit shit shit. Not as bad as losing $3k on an amp build where the builder goes MIA, but it still hurts. Why didn't I just get a Teese wah?

I had a Area 51 and it sounded great also a Teese Pic Wah, I slightly preferred the Area 51. The Fulltone Deluxe was pretty nice too. A stock BBE is a good wah for the money. It was hanging with the Area 51 and Fulltone pretty well, however I did not check them out enough to have a real solid opinion.
Sometimes I should leave well enough alone, buying into the hype lost me money and now I have NO wah and will have to buy another. All because Mason,...Ken the II, has to screw over fellow musicians with the help of celebrity Guitar Players, you can not trust anyone these days.

    Unbelievable.

So Larry Carlton, Robben ford and Michael Laudau are by default endorsing BBE wahs? Hilarious.

I was actually going to buy the Landau chorus from Vertex --- I think I will buy the original mod one from EWS/xotic -- probably the same one Vertex is selling -- just no goop or Vertex label

Mason's fraud has done serious damage to the boutique market. I hope his endorsers see through his BS.

He is a big talker with an ego to go with it... Too bad honesty and integrity isn't there.

It is amazing the shit people think they can get away with.

As is always the case .... the truth will eventually come out and take a serious bite out of your ass ... and in some cases that first bite will be fatal.

I talked to him a while back to wire a small board for me -- and he wanted $3,000

Needless to say I never called him back ---

Hey look at it this way --- people pay big bucks for relic'd guitars .....

Maybe Mason at Vertex started a new trend by getting folks to pay big bucks for effects pedals with gooped and taped components

Crazy -- When you look at the pictures of the BBE wah compared to the vertex effects axis wah -- they look identical -- even down to the same battery.
