    Arthritis flare-up after a gig

I don't know about the rest of you, but my arthritis flares up after a gig (major inflammation, stiffness, joint pain).

what is worse, it is taking longer for me to recouperate after a gig. I had a gig last friday night.. and I am still in pain and still have increased inflammation in my hands and knees.

Warms showers have helped, as well as a dip in the pool ... but man it is getting worse.

Anybody else going through the same thing?

any tips to speed up recoup time?

keep moving. instinct might be to not move, but that makes things stiffer. also, it can help to move and massage the joints with your other hand. move them through the full range of motion and massage w/ a bit of pressure. you can also take supplements and make dietray changes that help reduce inflammation. one such supplement is quercetin. you can get it through amazon. the now foods version is great. dietary changes would include limiting vit. k intake. i think there's a book entitled the anti-inflammatory diet.

none of this is magic, but if can help depending on severity.

    ditto on keeping moving

... I have to say this is the worst arthritis flare up I have had after a gig --- the humidity could be compounding the problem as well. Between the heat and humidity, the last few days have been brutal.

On the last couple of gigs I have done, I "patched" my knees up Tiger Balm Patches before the gig.

It helped. Pain in my knees where much less that night after the gig and the next morning.

The tiger Balm patches work pretty good. You can pick them up at WalMart.

My problem is warming up. I am 50 years young and man it takes me a good two hours just to get ready to play.

It's frustrating, and if I do not warm up properly, I have to play with a stinger in the back of my hand.
