What was the first bass you owned?

Mine was an early 70's Hohner P bass knock off. I still have it. Honestly, it plays as well as any Fender I've ever owned since. Somewhere around '78 I modded it with DiMarzio P bass pickups. I love that bass!

Gibson EB3 with the slotted headstock, bought it in probably 1974. I still have it, including the almost 40 year old tape wound strings. Its been in the storage room for a very long time. I bought a original Gibson Thunderbird 2 in that same time period, still have that one also!

A Ralston - I swear it was like the dog food. It had the red checked logo and everything.

Growing up, my best friend (RIP) and I bought it from a yard sale for $9 when we were maybe 12. We took it apart, cleaned it up and put strings (which cost more then the bass) on it.

I still have a pic of him playing it.

Never even heard of a Ralston. Did it have PUR-ina tone? Post that pic!

I will have to get it out. One of those things since the guy passed away, you know. It was like a Teisco or something. How Ralston ended up making their name on a bass I don't know.

It was kind of like this but sunburst:

Oboy! A vintage thread I can post in!

How 'bout a Domino Gemini, repo'd from a guy in college for back rent?

Dusted it off and set it up a few years ago, rewired it...stays in tune like anything, plays remarkably well...go figure. But then there's the headstock-dives...

In 1969 - I rented a Magnatone bass and Gretsch bass amp.

    My first garage band.

"Born to be wild", "Five to One" and various blues and shuffles comprised our repertoire.
