Greg Clark "Funky Munk" Amps/Pedals Debacle (WARNING)

Greg D Clark and I came to an agreement in mid August for an Ultra Phonix amp build. I sent him a donor chassis and downpayment to start the build just as I've done with any and every boutique amp build I've ever done (deposit). Greg and I had over 60 communications and as we progressed we decided to add all NOS parts, a custom head shell, NOS tubes, and I even paid to have him design and make a custom "Funky Munk" logo. I wanted to help him market his amp as I believed he had what it took to be a great amp builder and I wanted in and wanted in early. He could help me with an Ultra Phonix build, and I could help him. To make a long story short, about 6 or so weeks ago Greg said my amp was near complete and he just had to do some final work, tune it, and I would get it soon. He said it was, "Way ahead of schedule". I paid him in full and waited for the amp to be shipped. That was the time I quit hearing from Greg. He simply has dropped off the face of the earth. As I investigated I found out that he had been ripping off other guys too.

I posted this thread to serve four purposes.

    1) Warn others so they don't get burned by Greg

    2) Maybe someone on here knows him well and can talk him into making his wrongs-right.

    3) I was hoping someone could PM me contact info.

    4) To start a list of others who have had dealing with Greg.

Please stick to the 4 main points. If you feel the need to point out how "stupid" I was for choosing Greg as a builder or the process, go ahead and PM me. We could set up a phone conversation or perhaps meet for coffee. I only say this as it happened on another site and some guy started making me out to be the person at fault...
I feel obligated to warn others so you don't get taken too. Both sides of deals need to be told (good or bad). I planned on marketing the heck out of Greg's amp if it was what I believed it would be. If that is fair game then telling of this "deal gone bad" is also fair and others need to be warned.

Thank you in advance for keeping this thread focused on the 4 main points and please keep this civil.
I ENCOURAGE GREG TO CHIME IN AND TELL HIS SIDE OF THE STORY!

I'm sorry this happened to you.

A while back on this site I received a PM from someone trying to get me to buy one of their amps. If memory serves correctly (and it may not) it was Greg Clark. I didn't bite because I'm not that into those type of things and also thought it was kind of strange. I'm just curious to know if others got that PM, maybe it was like a spam thing that he sent out to everyone.

I'll ask around with people I know off this site and if I find out any info I'll post it back to you. I hope it works out!

    Made thread Sticky ---

Please no mud slinging etc -- this is serious stuff. Thread is here to warn members of our community (same has been done in Amp Garage).

At this point, Greg has not been banned from BGT. We are extending Greg an invitation to post in this thread and explain what has happened.

Seems like a message finally hit home to Greg as he contacted me yesterday via email. He promised me he was working on my amp and that it would be completed in 3 weeks. I could accept that if it was not for the fact that I have a bunch of emails and PM's from guys all over the net that say Greg tells them the same thing and then never delivers... (Seems like Greg owes A LOT of guys $ or gear). I sent him a return message back letting him know that he had 3 weeks or I would start the court process. On a side note, if it goes to court if will be a LONG AND WINDING ROAD but I will keep everyone informed of the process as this may happen to you sometime and my experience may be of help to you at a later date.

Tell him you will fly out and pick up the amp personally. Get ALL contact info and a verified phone number listed location, and fly to his place. Southwest fares are about $150 to $200. If he no shows, go straight to the courthouse to file a lawsuit in his home state. Let's see how serious he is.

Thanks for the info Jeff. That is not a bad idea and I will do what I need to do, legally, to get the amp or my $ back.

With that said, Bill from Sebago amps just offered to do an Ultra Phonix mod for me. My cost is the donor chassis and he does the rest on his dime. Man, there is hope for mankind yet...Not sure if I'll take him up on his offer as I'm out a lot of dough, but, it's pretty damn generous and the dude makes some AWESOME D-style amps!

Get pictures. Trust but verify. No pics, it's just another delay until the next delay.

On Monday I asked Greg for pictures of the amp. I asked him for various pictures and for him to put his driver's license and a penny in each photo. That way I would know they are new and not pictures of his old builds, etc. He said he would but as of tonight, Friday night, nothing. Hmm...

I also asked him for the name and number of the guy who he bought the NOS glass from and who he went through for the custom logo. I paid for him to have a custom logo done to help with marketing of HIS product line. The logo and the NOS tubes were probably close to $600 (I'd have to go back to check the exact numbers). He's supplied me with no information on anything. We'll be in court, IMO that is a given.

wow, so he reestablishes contact to right a wrong, and then goes right back to his old ways in less than a week? i think you're right, this will end in court. my the looks of things, you could have civil and criminal cases against him.
