Re: Gary Johnson Of Glaswerks Amps Is A Genius!

Having a dedicated bright switch on the clean channel makes a lot of sense to me and is something that I would use all the time.

You can have those funky cleans going on the clean channel and still have a normal EQ on the OD channel. Zero sacrifice. Zero compromise.

Without even hearing it - just based on topography you can tell this amp is going to have killer cleans.

Obivously someone really put some thought into how a player in "live" situation would use the amp.

    It makes perfect sense.

Andy is doing this on his new ODS 2 --- (for both channels)

I am going to have to stop by the shop and check it out

On the other hand, the Emmy Pro, Opal, Artist, SigV1, type 1, type 3, Custom, and Artist all have fantastic cleans. The Type 3 had one of the best cleans I have ever owned. The emmy I had that hopefully you can try has the bright and deep switch dedicated to the clean channel, and I had Bill put a 3 position bright on it. The cleans are stunning. The guy who bought it has a boat load of vintage fenders, a bruno tweedy pie 45 and a Cowtipper as well. he says the cleans on the emmy are as good as anything he owns. Again, hopefully you can try it out and see what you think, but I kinow for a fact you will LOVE it. The overdrive, like all D style amps, you can adjust anyway you want, and the emmy has the advantage of being HRM, so it has its own preamp and master volume control. Also has the series/parallel loop knob which can act as an over all Master when set to series. I am not trying to sell you one, just think it will totally change your mind about TwoRocks, especially the cleans! Its the one thing they always had over Dumbles and other clones. Great sounding and feeling cleans. Since we are on a GWs thread, the very first GWs i played was Barry Webbers (RIP ) first version, and that thing had AMAZING cleans. He then had it changed to a 100 watter and some other things done, and it was never the same to me. Oddly, I played owned a 100 watt twoRock custom, and its cleans were not nearly as good as its 50 watt counter part I had at the same time. hmmm. I have a clip somewhere of me playing Barrys GWs at some studio in NY. Bad quality clip, but you could still tell the cleans were great, and I had it right next to a Trock. That was a type 2 which I never dug that much, but it had really good cleans as well, and the GWs was every bit as good! I have never played another GWs with cleans like that, and I have played many and owned two. I am sure Gary could make another just like it, but I am done with the D thing. My Quinns nail it, and I have the fenders for my cleans, the best of which is still a SF 70s twin with the dreaded MV!! Go figure.

That person would be me. They do not come like that. I had Bill add a three position bright switch dedicated to the cleans, the deep switch dedicated to the cleans, and a 3 position mid switch that was turned on and off on the foot switch. I also had a two position switch that changed the treble cap between 500K and 330K, two values Dumble used in different amps. With the seperate gains and MVs, you could get as clean and spanky on channel one as you could want, and just a hint, to full out overdrive on the lead channel. However, by FAR the most important thing, is the amp did not need these things. The very basic sound of the amp is off the charts. These things just made it a bit more flexible. Its nothing like a Mesa with a million switches, that no matter how you set them, it still sounds mediocre. The emmy KILLS with all knobs at 12, and all switches off. You know the amps gotta sound good if I am still raving about it as much as the very first time I played one 14 years ago!!!!

    Brilliant.

This should be a standard option -- seriously it makes sense. -- especially if you don't want to spend the money on a more complex amp with separate tone controls for clean and OD channel or multiple OD channels.

Adding a dedicated 3 way switch to clean channel is all I would really need - and if it could be engage ( bright on/off) with the foot switch -- even better.

My Friedman BE-100 has a 3way dedicated to the clean channel. It is a good option, works well.

Seriously -- that makes so much sense

I feel like a complete idiot for never requesting it.

Does it add any noise when you engage the bright switch?

No, nothing that I noticed, I used to have some two rocks that had a bright switch. When I tried it, It did sound good on the clean for some stuff
but not everything, and definitely NOT good on the OD Ch. It seemed a bit more powerful on the Two Rock than the Friedman. On the Friedman I just leave it in the middle position , On the TR I had it would have been great to footswitch it as it really did change the character of the tone.(ALOT)
