NAD -- Bassman with Mods by Smitty from Bluetron

Just picked up an old Bassman with mods done by Smitty from Bluetron. (Lots of controversy around this guy).

I don't know the man, never talked to him -- I know nothing other than some of the stories I heard as well as the fact that the man is (or was) one of the best damn builder/designers out there.

    The amp kills.

    The mods are:

    1. Upgraded the parts
    2. Upgraded Transformer to a 100 watt Twin Transformer
    3. Converted it from 6L6 to EL34
    4. Added a Master volume
    5. Added a negative feedback adjustment knob to give the amp a more vintage cleaner or aggressive feel (he calls it the "Soul control")

this is a 3D Super clean machine that can go from super clean to mean at any volume

Will post some pictures in a few minutes

I love EL34 amps with Big Irons

This head weighs a ton -- I think I am going to leave it as a head

Got a lupo closed back used -- for a $100

Threw in it an Eminence Governor

All I can say is that this thing is a loud clean machine

When I say loud, I really mean loud -- I can play an outdoor arena and deliver a clean signal into the next town.

This thing delivers more headroom then I could ever possibly ever need or want.... and with the MV, I can set her up to get dirty if I want to as well.

The "soul control" is a little tricky -- but when you find the sweet spot -- it sounds incredible -- higher the looser the amp feels -- lower it and she gets tight.

the tone and feel reminds of a K&M Steel String Singer I played a few years ago.

    Good score!
    Pretty happy with it

going to take it to reheasal on 4/1

Will try and cut some clips then ---

It sounds great with my Landau suhr spec guitars -- and completely off the wall great with the Tylers

With the 335 it sounds so so.

However, the 335 sounds terrific with the 67 Bandmaster and crazy good with the victoria double D.

I tell you what --- I will never again complain about not having "pristine" clean headroom in an amp again --- incredible headroom.

Honestly, I can crank the amp up and peel the paint off my neighbor's wall a 1/2 mile down the road and the amp will still be squeaky funk/r&b zero grit/hair clean

I wonder if I can get the same clean headroom if I put a Twin Transformer in the Bandmaster?

    I like it!

    I will

this weekend got crazy and next weekend I have band practice -- probably the following weekend works.

Get TAG to come as well.

I'll bring you a couple of Cuban cigars - so you can rehabilitate them.

I have not added water to my humidor in a while

I don't smoke any more... so I forget that I even have them.

    This am just kills ---

    Big Iron El34

The negative feedback pot is really something. You can change the character of the amp with any guitar.

I think Two-rock use to have something similar to this.

He calls the negative feedback dial (Soul Control)

what other amps have this feature and what other names does it go by?
