OK - update. I talked to a friend of mine who is a great acoustic player and he told me to use compression wound DRs on the 41 and go down a gauge - to 12.

I was using the blue box Martins (13). So I took the saddle down a little and put the 12s on. Sounded different, I thought it sounded a little wimpier and less detailed. Played it for a couple hours and was going to change them out.

Picked it up last night - woah! They needed a day to sit I guess because it has that Neil Young low end thump and high sparkle to it.

Naturally, being the idiot that I am, I sold the 000-18GE last fall and have regretted it ever since.

Currently on the prowl for another or possibly 000-28EC or 000-42 as I really prefer glossy necks.

I like the glossy necks as well.

Honestly, I would call Jim Boyce about a custom build if I were looking to buy a new Martin. The guy is priced very reasonably and has built guitars for many of the top folkies (Stephen Grossman, etc...).

Not a name dropping guy and works out of his house. He is the dude that fixed my EB and OO-21. My next acoustic will be one of his.

Back from the Abyss with 2 new Martins:

    D18GE and 000-28E.

I believe I am covered on the acoustic side for retirement.
