(Yet another ) NGD: Ehlers 16SSSBA acoustic guitar

I have had (until yesterday) a Taylor 816ce that, while overall a very nice guitar with a tone I really liked, just wasn't really doing it for me . . . it didnt project or resonate like I felt it should, and was somewhat soft in feel (the tone, that is; not the body). It was nice, but too subdued. If I were a jazz player maybe it would have been useful, but . . . that's not me.

So I took advantage of the 100% credit towards upgrade policy from the store I had bought it from . . . and after trying out many many guitars, I have now found (and bought) what I can honestly say is the absolutely best sounding guitar I have ever played.

The guitar is made by Ehlers Guitars, based in Oregon. It is a 16" lower bout "small jumbo" with a European Spruce top and European Maple back & sides. All (even the back of the neck!) done up in a gorgeous sunburst finish. I was actually looking to get a guitar with a lot less "bling", but the other Ehlers I tried out (as good as they were) just couldnt match this one. Even the Art Davis J1BRS I recently got (as great as it is, don't get me wrong) doesn't have the same degree of, well, awesomeness as this particular Ehler 16 model . . . .

The clarity and breadth of the tone of this guitar blows me away. Deep, rich bass and clear, ringing trebs . . . . Tremendous versatility - can handle whatever style you throw at it, from intricate fingerstyle to full bore strumming. Complex but clear. When you hit a chord, you can hear every note individually as well as combined. This is not hyperbole; it is truly the most amazing guitar I have ever played (and I also tried just about every high-end guitar in the very large collection they had at the store).

Here are a few pics from the shop . . . I'll try to get some of my own taken and put up soon . . . .

Good Lord. That's beautiful. If it sounds 1/10th as good as it looks, it's gotta be pure heaven.
    Congratulations

It honestly sounds at least 10 times as good as it looks . . . . I lucked into a good one (well, I did pay a substantial amount above and beyond the trade-in on my Taylor, but it is certainly worth it . . . and more.
